Broken Heart Velvet Purse

This is one of my first attempts at making a velvet purse. It is the broken heart purse. This is a cute casual bag that is small enough to fit cozy on your shoulder, but still large enough to hold a book and a few more things. Its lovely!

First, I hand dyed all of the fabric. The silk/rayon blend velvet, and the linen/cotton blend fabric for the lining and front panel. I went with a deep reddish burgundy which looks much darker on the velvet, and a bold cerulean blue velvet for the heart applique on the front and the cotton lining. I hand drew the broken heart, but the rest is from a pattern I had for a purse.

I hand dye my fabric with industrial strength dye so the colors will not fade, or rub off. My colors are mixed by hand and therefore this purse if one of a kind. The different fabrics end up different shades of the same color which makes for a nice look. This item looks much nicer in person!
